Idemitsu Lubricants America and Mazda Make History at Rolex Daytona 24 Hours!

The exciting new partnership of Idemitsu Lubricants America (ILA) and Mazda Motorsports paid immediate and historic dividends as the two Mazda RT24-Ps survived the most brutal racing test of man and machine at the Rolex Daytona 24 Hours to record Mazda’s best overall finish ever at this most prestigious of endurance races.

Mr. Masashi Yokomura, Senior Executive Officer at Idemitsu Kosan Company Ltd., Tokyo, led a contingent of ILA executives at the race, including Noriaki Ito, Kenji Ito, Mike Park, Scott Becker, Bob Hashmi and Alex Moreira.

After setting a new unofficial lap record and earning the pole, the No. 77 Mazda RT24-P, driven by Olivier Jarvis, Tristan Nunez and Olivier Pla, claimed an epic second-place finish, completing all 833 laps during the 24-hour race. The No. 77 Mazda, in Idemitsu white-and-red livery, led for 190 laps during the race, and overcame stiff competition and adverse conditions to finish just over one minute behind the eventual winner. Teammates in the No. 55 Mazda RT24-P overcame damaged bodywork and other challenges to finish a respectable sixth. Securing a podium-finish at the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Rolex Daytona 24 Hours marks a brand-new chapter in Mazda’s motor-sporting history and reinforces Idemitsu Lubricants America’s unwavering support for Mazda and its motorsporting endeavors.
